Therra - Project
Renewable heat is essential to reach the EU 12% renewable energy target for 2010. Yet no clear targets have been set for the use of renewable heat. A major bottleneck is the lack of generally accepted methods to calculate and monitor the production of renewable heat. The ThERRA-project intends to fill this gap by developing and disseminating a methodology for monitoring the total amount of renewable heat produced in the EU. The goal is that this methodology is acceptable for the key-actors in the EU and the participating countries and that it is tested in seven typical EU-countries.
In the project the partners have compared the definitions and methods used in the participating countries and by international organisations. A national contact group has been formed to agree on the national input. On this basis a draft has been elaborated and a consultation with an international advisory board has led to the final version available on the website. The methodology has been tested in pilot projects. The outcome of the pilot projects was used to finalize the methodology, which was disseminated at different levels.
